I can't get over how many times I've been asked this question. Especially when it comes to Tokio Hotel.
I can't help but seriously wonder if, being a fan of their music is really that bad...Could be worse, I could be hash tagging everything I say with "DIRECTIONER4LIFE" or "BEIBERSGIRL".
I'm not quite sure if I made a post about this in the past, but there is some pretty hard evidence out there as to why the now men of Tokio Hotel, are some pretty addictive human beings. Granted, I'm not the fan girl I once was. But if you go back in time, to that little black candle before "Durch den Monsun." You'd kind of understand.
Every band has it's back story. Every member has their own personal things that everyone can relate to. Now unlike most bands or boy groups, what ever you want to call them now-a-days. They first have been secretly auditioned for. I mean didn't the girl who is now known as Ke$ha audition to become her?
(I could be wrong so please kindly enlighten me if I am!)
Tokio Hotel started with two boys, who already had an attraction to them before they even picked up a guitar, or a microphone. They are twins. Duh! Who doesn't love TWINS?! On top of that, they grew up to become exceptionally attractive twins.
Their mom gets with a music man, sparks fly, these kids have an exceptionally awesome step father (Whom I may have emailed once or twice in the past. And only got TWO responses....still pretty awesome :D)and now they had this beacon of light to inspire them to make music..
Then came the show where according to an interview Gustav and George saw them play and well it's onward and upward from there.
The G's? G-Squared. Gustav and Georg?! I'll admit...I don't know much about them. I also don't know a lot about the twins (Mind you knowing what others know doesn't count as knowing a lot.)I think that's cool how they keep their lives so private. Keeps a designated line drawn in the sand. Well for those fans who aren't blind to it anyway.
My point is, the fascination behind Tokio Hotel isn't really their music alone. It's how the music came to be. I think that's how they were able to remain a band for so long. There were no real outside elements to hinder or attempt to sever any ties. They are doing their thing, which is what most artists should try and remember. Instead of being distracted with things like instagram controversy, tabloid nonsense, etc.
So they haven't won a grammy(yet) that doesn't make them terrible. People who claim to be totally disgusted with Tokio Hotel are only acting that way, because other people may not like them. Calling their music awful while you listen to artists who basically ALL sing about the same things. If your panties are in a bunch look up Shane Dawson's Youtube Video about how Solo pop stars, Boy Bands are lying to you...because it's true. Big Time Rush, One Direction, Selena Gomez, Justin Bieber, Rhianna...it's all the same message, same soundboards, it's one big yawn. Sure a few songs (most likely NOT on the radio) may stick out. But honestly, when I hear it all on the radio...it's like one big song, that gets on everybody's nerves.
So yeah, if I had to choose. Outsider bands like tokio hotel? All day baby.
All F*ckin day. ;)
